What Fish Can I Eat?

There is a very famous alternative health website on the internet that is proclaiming that one should not eat any fish at all. While the mercury content of certain fish is problematic, with the proper knowledge you can make informed decisions about fish that is healthy for you and your family. So lets get to the basics.

1. Farmed and wild salmon are both low in mercury BUT farm raised salmon can be high in PCB's due to the feed that they are given. If you eat more than one serving every week or so I would make sure it is wild and caught by a company that believes in sustainability to the environment.

2. Flounder, haddock and cod also have low levels of mercury and also have some B vitamins as well.

3. Tuna, trout, and halibut all of which I happen to love unfortunately have mercury issues with them, with all things, moderation! I would limit consumption of these fish just be smart about it, if you eat tuna everyday for lunch you may want to throw in a vital choice canned salmon from time to time. You wouldn't believe how good canned Vital Choice RED Salmon is. The canned salmon at the stores is usually pink and is not a tenth as good as the red.

4. Swordfish and shark are very high in mercury and it is best to avoid or eat only a couple of times per year if at all.
